Comparison (2) Unit 102

Unit 102

Comparison (2)

good/well

Better

bad/badly

Worse

much

many

more

little

less

far

farther (for distance)

further(for time or meaning more additional)

late

later(for time)

old

older(for age)

elder(talking about members of a family)

more или additional:

- Is there any further news? ( further =any more news)

- I can't walk any farther. I'm exhausted.(= distance)

more и less:

- We are glad that this work is less difficult.

- I smoke more than I used to.

(b) Older и elder:

(my) elder brother/sister/son/daughter:

- My elder sister is an artist.

- My sister is older than me. (но не 'elder than me')

Например: harder and harder, more and more,

more and more difficult.

It's becoming more and more difficult to find a job.

the + СРАВНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ФОРМА + the better.

Например:

- What time shall we leave?

- The sooner the better. (= it will be best if we leave as soon as possible)

- What size box do you want?

- The bigger the better. (= it will be best if the box is as big as possible)

Мы употребляем the... the...(с двумя

- The warmer the weather, the better I feel.

- The more you have, the more you want.
