Infinitive of purpose and as an attribute Unit 63

Unit 63

Infinitive of purpose and as an attribute

- My sister took a vacation to visit me.

- He ran faster and faster to escape from bandits.

in order to и so as + инфинитив.

- I'll write down your telephone number in order not to forget it.

- I'll get up early so as not to be late.

- I have nobody to say a good word to me.

(= I have nobody who could say a good word to me).

- I have a lot of work to do this evening.

(= I have a lot of work that I must do this evening)

Слова time/money/energy требуют после себя

- They gave me some money to buy some food. (а не 'for buying')

Следует применять so that ...won't/wouldn't...

- Listen attentively so that you won't (или don't) miss anything.

- I hurried on to the platform so that I wouldn't be late.

2. В сочетании с can и could

(so that ... can/could ...):

- She reads a lot of books on History so that she can pass her exams.

- The Browns moved to London so that they could live close to their children.

- I gave him my address so that he could contact me.
